September Gardening Checklist

September has crept up on us already. Years ago it marked the end of the gardening season, but with warmer temperatures there is still time to enjoy your outdoor space. Next week at Pentland Plant we will have a big delivery of fantastic new stock, so keep an eye on the benches for lots of exciting new varieties. In the meantime, here are are our top recomended gardening jobs to help you get the most from your garden this month.

  • Keep deadheading your plants - including roses too!
  • Keep on top of general cutting back and tidying throughout the garden
  • Now is a good time to apply an autumn lawn feed to keep your grass healthy throughout the year ahead
  • Clip your hedges
  • Plant your spring flowering bulbs
  • Move tender plants under cover to protect them during the colder days
  • Replace your summer bedding as it comes to an end with plants for winter. Don't forget to keep these plants watered though!

If you need a little help and inspiration with your garden please just ask one of our knowledgeable members of staff. It's sometimes hard to know what will grow well in exposed, bright or shady areas. How to plant a container with bulbs for a professional looking display in the spring. How to repair a lawn that has been well used by family and pets over the summer. Whatever questions you have - our team can offer some great tips and inspiration!
